Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced an extension to the free trial dates of Lhaviyani Atoll ferry under their Raajje Transport Link (RTL) services.
The ferry services in Lhaviyani Atoll began last Monday, under the government's efforts to link the nation via high-speed ferry services.
As per the previous plan by the Planning Ministry, the free trials of the ferry services were valid till today in a bid to increase public awareness of the service. The Ministry had revealed yesterday that the free trial period has been since extended, though a specific date was not announced.
Lhaviyani Atoll is the first atoll to receive high-speed ferry services under the RTL Phase 2. MTCC revealed that there will be three operational routes in Lhaviyani Atoll, with one route being dedicated to trips from Madivaru Airport.
The company further highlighted that under the second phase of the project, services will next begin in the Southern atolls.
The project is split into a total of six zones. Under the first phase of the project, the service was launched and is currently operational in Haa Alif, Haa Dhall and Shaviyani Atoll which falls under Zone 1. Under the second and third phases, the company will soon begin the service in Noonu, Raa, Baa and Lhaviyani Atoll (Zone 2), Kaafu, Alif Alif, Alif Dhaalu, Vaavu (Zone 3), Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, Thaa, Laamu (Zone 4) Gaafu Alif and Gaafu Dhaalu (Zone 5) and Seenu and Gnaviyani (Zone 6).
