Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer has stated that the Maldivian economy will grow four-fold once the developmental projects run by the government are finished.

Speaking during a program broadcast by Public Service Media (PSM), Minister Ameer stated that the economy had faced various challenges due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. He noted that due to the pandemic, many loans were needed to be taken, though even with those loans the total increase in debt in the past four years was at MVR 39 billion.

Ameer noted that the projects that are being conducted with loans are economically beneficial. As such he noted that the economy will grow when projects such as Water and Sewerage Systems are established in all islands, Velana International Airport and Hanimaadhoo International Airport, Thilamale' Bridge, Port in Gulhifalhu come to a completion.

He stressed that while some people cannot see such projects, as a nation it is shameful that some islands still lack a proper water and sewerage system in 2022.

He further added that the construction industry, which is essential for the economy has also been growing due to the housing projects carried out by the government.
