Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has asked all judges to handover gifts they receive to the court.

JSC issued a circular to the judges on Wednesday, stating that judges should not accept bribes or any gifts that can be deemed as bribery, as is mandated by judicial disciplinary standards.

"As such, all judges are reminded to not accept any gifts sent to them or to the court," JSC said.

JSC said judges can accept symbolic gifts from diplomatic missions or international organisations on different occasions as a token of respect. However, JSC said the symbolic gifts must also be handed over to the court.

JSC takes action against judges if they fail to meet the judicial disciplinary standards. As such, JSC recently fired a magistrate for accepting a bribe.
