Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Miuvan Mohamed has stated that the report by the Deaths and Disappearances Commission on the disappearance of Ahmed Rilwan will be presented to the President by the end of the year.
Spokesperson Miuvan made the remarks while speaking at the press conference at President's Office on Thursday.
"The Committee is working on concluding the investigation report. God willing, the report will be presented before the year ends," he said.
The State has charged 3 men in the disappearance and murder of Rilwan. As such, Ismail Abdulraheem (Isu), M. Lagoon View, Ahmed Ismail (Ahandhu), Ma. Faagafilaage, and Ahmed Muaz (Gut Mua), Male' Dhafthar have been charged with Rilwan's murder.
Isu has been charged with two counts of assisting an act of terror, stating that Isu had stalked Rilwan prior to his abduction and aided in the disappearance and murder. Additionally, Isu has also been charged with stalking blogger Yameen Rasheed in 2017.
Ahandhu has been charged with planning and assisting an act of terror. Ahandhu is said to have participated in the planning and enabling of the abduction and murder through a third party. He was also charged with assisting an act of terror for enabling the murder of Yameen Rasheed.
Gut Mua has been charged with planning an act of terrorism. He was charged with having planned and organized the abduction and murder of Rilwan on the night of 8th August 2014.
The three of them were arrested on June 26th. While they were charged on August 1st, they are currently detained till the end of the trial.
The trial hearings are being carried out behind closed doors.
