Supreme Court has rejected the petition to remove Speaker Nasheed from Parliament.
Although Supreme Court Registrar has decided to reject the petition, the case can still be submitted to the Judges bench for review.
Attorney Ahmed Thalib had submitted the petition asking Speaker Nasheed to be removed from his post on grounds of violation of his oath by representing Sri Lanka at COP27 Summit in Egypt.
Thalib had stated that Nasheed's actions are a conflict of interest, and that his duty should be to the people of the Maldives as per Article 75 of the Constitution.
As such, Thalib had asked for Supreme Court to deem Nasheed's action as unlawful and to take action against him.
