A fire that broke out at a garage in Male' City has now been controlled.

The fire was controlled past 2:00am on Thursday morning. Two people who were rescued by Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) firefighters were taken to IGMH in an ambulance.

No details of their condition were available at the time of press.

Maldives Police Service noted that they received reports of a fire at a garage located near Iskandhar Magu and Koarukendi Magu around 12:27pm. They added that MNDF Fire & Rescue was active at the scene.

The garage has various chemicals used to paint cars. The fire seemingly has broken out inside the building. Explosions heard during the fire are assumed to be from such chemicals in the premises.

People from the area were evacuated due to the fire.
