Criminal Court has sentenced a child sex offender to 16 years in Jail.

The Criminal Court did not reveal details of the case as it involves a minor. The court sentenced Alif Dhaalu Atoll Dhidhoo, Roashaneevilla, Shamil Adam after he was found guilty of a sexual act carried out by a person in a position of trust under the Special Provision Act to Deal with Sexual Offenders of Children.

The Court noted that even though he had pleaded not guilty, the evidence submitted by the state proved the charges against him. With reference to Clause 9 (a) of the Special Provision Act to Deal with Sexual Offenders of Children, he was sentenced to 15 years in jail as stated in Clause 9 (b).

Shamil had already been serving prison time for three years, three months, and thirteen days during the trial period he will need to serve 11 years eight months, and seventeen days.
