Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has stated that unpaid tourism leases owed to the state total up to MVR 9.1 billion.
The third quarter financial report published by MIRA by the month of September, the total number of unpaid resort lease fees owed to the state is MVR 2.7 billion. With the addition of MVR 6.3 billion as fines, the total amount owed is now MVR 9.1 billion.
As per the report, unpaid dues to the state amounted up to MVR 15.2 billion. This included MVR 5.5 billion in Tax Income and Fines and MVR 587 million in other revenue.
The statistics further revealed that State Owned Enterprises also owed MIRA MVR 1.3 billion, in addition to MVR 2 billion as GST Income and Fines, MVR 1.7 billion as Income Tax and Fines, and MVR 916 million as TGST Income and Fines.
Unpaid tourism lease fees were the highest contributor to unpaid dues to MIRA. In the second quarter report, the authority noted that MVR 9.4 billion was owed in tourism lease fees by June 2022.
Of this, MIRA was able to receive MVR 484 million.
