President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has ratified the first amendment bill to the Utility Regulatory Authority (URA) Act (26/2020) on Sunday.
The bill was passed by the Parliament on 17 October 2022 at the 24th sitting its third session this year.
As per the new amendment, the URA is mandated under section 34 of the Act to formulate guidelines that govern billing for general utility services upon consultation with utility providers. As such, URS will specify procedures to calculate late fines, circumstances for service discontinuation, and procedures to be followed in such cases.
The bill was published in the Government Gazette upon ratification.
