Abdulla Rasheed's body has been flown out of the country for an autopsy to clarify the circumstances around his death while being under the custody of the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

Rasheed's body was flown out to India after his family was allowed to pay final respects.

A member of his family who spoke to One Online today noted that as per the Police, his body will be flown back to the country on November 5th.

Rasheed's family had previously told the Civil Court that they want to hold a funeral as soon as possible as per Islamic Shariah, and that police had not informed the family the body will be flown out for an autopsy.

Civil Court on Sunday denied the family their motion, stating that although autopsies are not favoured in Islam, in some cases they are permissible. As such, Civil Court Judge Hassan Faheem ruled that Police have the right to conduct an autopsy to determine cause of death.

A member from the family highlighted that while they respect the Civil Court's verdict, his body was flown out for the autopsy as the decision of the civil court was appealed at the High Court.
