Finance Ministry has denied Male' City Council claim that the latter has not received funds from the Ministry in 3 months.
The claim was made following Tweets by 'Zuvaan Dhanduveriyaa' account on Twitter stating that the City Council has not paid for their purchase of plants.
Speaking in this regard, City Council's media officer Mariyam Shiuna told 'One' on Sunday that the delays in payment are due to Finance Ministry withholding funds from the Council.
Shiuna added that the Ministry has not released funds to the Council for three months and that the reason remains unclear.
An Official from the Ministry told 'One' in response that the Council's claims are untrue, and that the Ministry has released the budgeted funds to the Council every month.
"The Ministry has been releasing the grant funds to the Council every month. We have never withheld budget payments. City Councils claims are untrue," the official said.
City Council's media officer Shiuna said that the Council will clear the pending payments as soon as Finance Ministry releases funds to the Council.
'One' has come to know that City Council purchased 80 guava trees from 'Zuvaan Dhanduveriyaa' at MVR 200 per tree. As such, the Council owes MVR 16,000 in payments for the trees.
