The total number of tourist arrivals this year has marked the 1.3 million mark.
According to the latest Tourism Industry Update posted by the Ministry of Tourism, 1,317,573 tourists had arrived in the Maldives to date.
India leads the top source markets for tourism this year, taking up 14.1 percent of the market share. While the United Kingdom moves down to the third slot after spending a notable time in the second position, Russia climbs up the list to take the second spot. Russia now has 12.1 percent of the market share.
The Tourism Ministry expects the number of Russian tourists to increase ahead of Winter holidays.
Statistics by the Ministry further reveal that on average 4،250 tourists visit the country daily, who spend about seven to eight days in the prominent honeymoon destination.
The number of arrivals this year is expected to largely surpass that of 2021, which saw a total of 1,321,932 arrivals. 2020 saw 555،494 arrivals with the number dropping drastically due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Pre-pandemic numbers were at 1.7 million in 2019.
The government aims to reach 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year.
