Commissioner of Police (CP) Mohamed Hameed has said that it deeply saddening that Abdulla Rasheed died while under police custody.
Rasheed was arrested on Tuesday as part of an ongoing operation by the Drug Enforcement Department. Police said that Rasheed suffered chest pains and showed signs of a seizure. Rasheed was pronounced dead when police took him to Madaveli Health Centre.
CP Hameed Tweeted on Friday that it is saddening that Rasheed died while in police custody, and that investigation is ongoing to determine if there was any neglect from police in this case.
National Integrity Commission (NIC) is currently investigating the case and have decided on an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Rasheed's family has refused consent to an autopsy and protested at being unable to see his body.
