President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has ratified the second amendment to the Legal Profession Act (Act No. 5/2019) on Sunday.
Parliament passed the bill on 19 October 2022 during the 24th sitting of its third session.
The bill included revision to the rules the govern disciplinary proceedings carried out by the Bar Council, the guidelines on formulating council's budget and spending, as well as mandatory training for lawyer license applicants.
A new section was added to the Act under Section 53 while Sections 31(d), and 31-1(e) were repealed.
The revisions also allow provisionally licensed lawyers to apply for permanent permits without sitting bar exam.
The bill was gazetted upon ratification.
