A man has been fined MVR 74,400 for damages caused in an accident in GDh. Thinadhoo in 2017.

The accident occurred on 31 March 2017, when Nasrullah Saleem -who was riding a Jupiter motorbike without a license - ran his bike into Maha Ali Hashim, causing various injuries to the latter.

Nasrullah had confessed to riding the bike without a license, stating that the accident occurred while he was trying to overtake a car, and that it was unintentional.

During the hearing, Nasrullah maintained his confession, however, stating that he would lose his job if jailed. He appealed for a fine instead.

Judge Ali Nadheem, who initially sentenced Nasrullah for 1 year 12 days in prison, changed the sentencing to a fine of MVR 74,400 to be paid within 18 months to MIRA.
