Maldives Police Service (MPS) has stated that 21-year-old Mohamed Zayan Moosa's death was in fact a pre-meditated murder.
Head Inspector of Death and Homicide Investigation Unit, Inspector Mohamed Samih said Zayan's murder was pre-meditated as a result of series of violent fights between two gangs that operate in Feydhoo. Inspector Samih made the remarks while speaking to the press regarding Zayan's murder, on Wednesday night.
"It was uncovered during the investigation that Zayan was murdered to seek revenge over a fight that ensued in Feydhoo on the night of 31 May 2022," Inspector Samih said.
Inspector Samih added that the gang had also tried to attack another person that night before they murdered Zayan. The gang members had snuck into Zayan's home where they waited and struck Zayan in his own living room.
He further added that Zayan had run up to the first floor of the house seeking help after being stabbed multiple times. Zayan's family was present with him when Police attended the scene, and Zayan identified his attackers, Inspector Samih said.
Police investigation also uncovered that the gang had tried to dispose of the weapons used to attack Zayan.
Four minors have been charged for Zayan's murder, and the 7 adults arrested over the murder are still being investigated.
