Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof has stated that the USD 25 million project on the development of National Stadium is expected to begin by the end of the year.

The Minister made the statement in response to a question posed by Kanditheemu Member of Parliament (MP), Abdulla Shaheem, during the parliament session today.

Minister Mahloof highlighted that currently, the final works are ongoing in order to bulldoze the current stadium and begin the development of a new one in the same area. He further added that the stadium will be bulldozed only after the stadium in Hulhumalé is set up to accommodate matches.

Mahloof further added that the project is being developed through a Line of Credit from India, and is valued at USD 25 million. He noted that the project is expected to begin by late 2022 or early 2023.
