Male' City Council has been fined MVR 10,000 for selling plants under an unregistered business.

Economic Ministry's Media Official told 'One' on Tuesday night that the Ministry has looked into the issue and fined City Council onTuesday.

The Official added that City Council will need a local authority company to operate a business, which is not how City Council has been operating.

"Male' City Council is not operating the business in accordance to the business regulations set for councils. After looking into the issue, we decided to fine the City Council MVR 10,000 since the council was not operating a registered business," the official said.

Male' City Council opened their nursery 'Male' Fehi' on 8 October.

Male' City Council had previously stated that the nursery is part of the council's strategic action plan which includes a programme to make Male' greener.
