Civil Court has ordered a stop on the cancellation of unlawfully registered vehicles by Transport Ministry.

Transport Ministry had decided to cancel around 200 registrations for vehicles that were unlawfully registered. The registrations that were cancelled include vehicles that had passed the registration period and those that were unlawfully registered to Male' zone.

Five vehicle owners contested Transport Ministry's decision at Civil Court on 7 October, stating that Transport Ministry is cancelling registrations without prior notice and the cancellation does not specify the reason for it.

As such, the five individuals had appealed for Civil Court to determine Transport Ministry's decision as ineffective.

Civil Court issued a temporary order on Monday, stating that sudden registration cancellations will cause damages to vehicle owners as they are unable to use their vehicles due to the registration cancellation and while the case is ongoing. As such, Civil Court ordered Transport Ministry to put the cancellations on hold.

Transport Ministry has also stated that the vehicles that had their registration cancelled can re-register their vehicles to Male' zone as per the regulations.
