Maldives Police Service has stated that Shiaau Mohamed Saeed's murder was not a pre-planned one.

Shiaau's dead body was found on August 7th, inside an apartment on the ninth floor of H. Sheereenvilla. Police had arrested 23-year-old Ali Shaahil in connection to the murder. He was arrested inside the apartment where Shiaau was found dead.

Speaking during a press conference on Saturday morning, Head of Serious and Organized Crime Department, Chief Superintendent of Police Hassan Saeed said her body had sustained significant injuries even after being killed.

He further added that the sole suspect remains to be Ali Shaahil. He stressed that there was enough evidence to find him guilty of intentionally murdering another person.

Saeed also noted that they will submit the case to the Prosecutor General's Office to charge Shaahil within the next two weeks.

He further highlighted that it was important to establish the motive behind the murder, stressing that they are still working on figuring it out and expect that extracting the data from Shaahils phone may lead to a breakthrough in the case.

He further stressed that they do not believe this to be a pre-planned murder, noting that it might be a "sudden incident" which had led to her death.

The superintendent also revealed that Shaahil has remained largely uncooperative in the investigation, and had not confessed to the murder either.

Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Bashir noted that the murder investigation was still ongoing. Bashir noted that even though 45 people have been questioned regarding the murder, the sole suspect remains to be Ali Shaahil. He stressed that there was enough evidence to find him guilty of the crime.

Bashir noted that they have received the preliminary autopsy report. He added that as per the autopsy, Shiaau died of significant injuries sustained to various parts of the body.

Bashir further highlighted that they can now establish that Shiaau's body had sustained significant injuries even after she was killed, in light of the autopsy report and investigations of the crime scene.

They however did not reveal any details of the injuries or the nature of those. However, several reports claim that the body was dismembered and decapitated when discovered by the Police.
