Ten individuals have been arrested on Monday during the PPM/PNC protest calling for the Government to fulfil the pledge to fishermen.
PPM/PNC's Spokesperson Heena Waleed told 'One' on Monday night that the 10 individuals arrested from the protest are currently detained, and that PPM/PNC is providing them legal assistance.
"We have contacted lawyers to provide the detainees legal assistance," Heena said.
PPM/PNC's 'leynaaru' protest was held near the local fish market. The protest was soon disassembled by the police as protesters gathered near Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). Police had cordoned off the area before all the participants of the protest reached the MMA premises.
The protesters criticised the current administration for the lack of ice plants and resources to weigh fish.
The protest was attended by PPM's Vice President and Naifaru constituency MP Ahmed Shiyam, Guraidhoo constituency MP Ghassaan Maumoon, Maavashu constituency MP Mohamed Saeed, Fares Maathodaa constituency MP Mohamed Latheef and PNC's President Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
