Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has submitted a case for review to the Parliament Committee on National Services, where an immigration officer had harassed two foreign nationals before denying them entry to the Maldives.
North Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam who is also the head of the committee noted during today's meeting that the case had been submitted for review and that it involved an immigration officer who had allegedly harassed and denied entry to Inthikab Idris, a permanent resident of the United Kingdom on September 12th along with a media official of Sri Lanka.
Aslam noted that an incident report is being obtained from the relevant authorities. He added that the information will be shared with the committee to move forward.
Maduvvari MP Adam Shareef highlighted during the meeting that it needs to be verified whether the two foreigners were deported by Immigration, or whether they had decided to fly back on their own following the complications at the airport. He also shared that those who had arrived in the country yesterday had noted of the long immigration queues, due to the increased number of tourist arrivals this season.
Aslam added that in the case submitted by the Speaker, no details of the involved parties were included. Hence, this information will be cleared with the Parliament Administration.
