The total number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives has crossed the 1.2 million mark.
According to the most recent Ministry of Tourism figures, 1,213,103 tourists visited the Maldives as of October 4. This is a 38% increase compared to the tourist arrivals in the same period last year, which saw 878,317 arrivals.
India remains the highest tourist market making up 14.2% of the total arrivals. Russia is ranked in second with 12%. The United Kingdom ranks third with 11%.
According to the Tourism Ministry, an average of 4,379 tourists come daily and remain for an average of 8 days. Maldives has 1,185 tourism facilities open for business, with an overall bed capacity of 58,493.
The government have set a goal of attracting 1.6 million visitors by the end of the year.
