Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has contracted two companies to build a Worker's Building and Auto Centre in Hulhumale'.
The agreement for the Worker's Building was signed by HDC's Managing Director (MD) Ahmed Athif and Hong Kong's Rotime Engineering Technology Pvt Ltd's Country Manager Chong Wu at a ceremony held at Meeruma on Thursday.
The agreement for the Auto Centre was signed by HDC's MD Ahmed Athif and China State Construction Engineering Corporation's General Manager Jung Tao.
The projects are funded by HDC.
The Worker's Building was contracted to be completed within 14 months. The purpose of the Worker's Building is to provide safe and adequate accommodation to expat workers.
The building is designed to accommodated 7000 labourers and 2000 hospitality staff in 18 blocks. Each block will have 4-6 rooms with bathroom stalls, prayer rooms, and shops. The accommodation will also have a separate floor for kitchen and mess hall.
The Worker's Building will also include a security room, conference hall, and medical room.
The project is valued at MVR 558.2 million.
The 35,400sqft Auto Centre will have 5 storeys with 7 service lifts and spacious garages. The Auto Centre will also include charging stations for electric cars.
The building will run on solar power and have rain water storage as part of HDC's sustainable city model. The building will also have sustainable waste management options and include a a water treatment facility for waste water.
The project is valued at MVR 632 million, to be completed within 2 years.
