Member of Parliament for Dhangethi constituency and the President of Maldives National Party (MNP), Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim has stated that the Maldives hospitality industry needs to be remodeled in order to benefit Maldivians.

Sending out well wishes of the National Tourism Day on Monday morning, the lawmaker raised questions about reports owned and controlled by Maldivians among the 166 operational resorts in the island nation.

He then stressed that the hospitality industry needs to be remodeled to further benefit Maldivians.

The majority of the resorts in the Maldives are joint ventures with major global hotel chains. Such properties employ mostly foreign workers instead of local Maldivians.

The Ministry of Tourism previously stressed the importance of making Maldivians the leading figures in the hospitality industry. They had also launched training programs targeted at Maldivians back then.
