The change has been brought upon under the visa agreement signed between Maldives and neighboring India. While the implementation process officially commences tomorrow, any visitors travelling for medical purposes or business purposes will be granted visa on arrival.

Additionally the government has also arranged for Maldivian students studying in India to also get ease in visa processes.

As such, any student who is Maldivian national studying in India at a full time program, in a government approved institution will be granted multiple entry standard visa for the duration of the program. Additionally, the parents or guardians of any student who is below 18 years of age will also be granted this multiple entry visa.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had taken the initiative to compose and implement a visa agreement between Maldives and India for the very first time during his visit to India.
