President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that tourism was founded on a 'One Island, One Resort' policy and that it should be maintained.

He made the remarks while speaking at the Tourism Appreciation Reception held at Crossroads on Thursday night to mark the Golden Jubilee of tourism in Maldives.

President Solih noted that the Maldives has achieved the number one tourist destination status in the world due to the undying commitment by the Maldivians. He stated that Maldives must strive to maintain that status.

"We have to strive to maintain our status in the tourism sector. There are multiple new tourist attractions being developed with Maldives as the concept inspiration. We must continue to provide exceptional hospitality to maintain our status," President Solih said.

President Solih stated that "we must protect our natural beauty and resources. We must protect our shores and seas in a sustainable manner. We cannot let go of the One Island One Resort concept which is our brand in the sector".

He further added that the tourism industry requires qualified people, be it locals or foreigners, to lead the industry. As such, he stated that opportunities should be open to everyone who is qualified.
