A Prison Officer at Maafushi Prison has died while on duty.

Prison Private Adam Niushadh, 32, died of medical complications on Thursday night while at duty.

Commissioner of Prisons, Ahmed Mohamedfulhu, posted on Facebook on Thursday night that Niushadh had been taken to Maafushi Health Centre after his health deteriorated while at duty. Niushadh passed away while undergoing medical treatment.

The Commissioner of Prisons did not specify what medical complication caused the sudden death of the Prison Private.

He stated that Niushadh's death has brought great sorrow to the institution and all his fellow officers and colleagues.

Niushadh joined the Correctional Services on 3 February 2014 and served multiple roles during his time with the institution.
