Amin Construction has been contracted to build the new buildings of Arabiyya School and Jamaaluddin School.
At a ceremony held at Education Ministry on Thursday, Minister Dr. Aishath Ali signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry, and Company Secretary Ibrahim Nihadh signed on behalf of Amin Construction.
Education Ministry stated that scope of work for the project include designing and building both schools and is a PSIP project for the year.
The project is valued at MVR 168.53 million, to be completed within 420 days.
Education Ministry also added that they are hopeful the construction work will be completed by end of December 2023 and the schools will open in the second term in 2024.
Arabiyya School construction:
- 40 classrooms
- Multipurpose hall
- Four lifts
- Parking zone for staff
Jamaaluddin School construction:
- 34 classrooms
- Two lifts
- Parking zone for staff
Education Ministry also added a separate entrance will also be made to access Jamaaluddin School from Madhoshi Goalhi to Jamaaluddin Hingun. Jamaaluddin School will also switch to one-session once the new building is completed.
Ministry further added that the demolition and clearance of the old building is currently underway and will be completed by 14 October.
Arabiyya School students have been temporarily transferred to the former Foreign Ministry building. President Solih on 20 December 2020 made the decision that the plot where old Jamaaluddin School building stood will be reconstructed for Arabiyya School. As such, the Elections Commission office was relocated from the location and demolition works commenced in May 2022.
