Minister of Tourism, Dr Abdulla Mausoom has stated that the homestay business in the Maldives will increase during the tourism peak season this year.

Minister Mausoom made the statement in an interview with One Online, where he also noted that the peak season will see an increased number of tourists at guesthouses as well as the Maldives expects a significant boost in tourism.

Peak season in the Maldives is considered between the months of November and March, normally the months of winter for Western countries.

The Minister further noted that Chinese tourists will start arriving after the new year and that 1.6 million tourist arrivals is a likely possibility with the potential to even surpass that mark.

Homestay tourism began last January in Meemu Atoll Dhiggaru and has spread across the country.
