HDh. Hanimaadhoo Airport employee who was arrested for joking about possessing a firearm has been released.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) said on Tuesday that the employee who was arrested on Monday has been released after questioning. MPS added that the investigation is ongoing.

Hanimaadhoo Council member Firag Mohamed told 'One' on Monday that the employee arrested was known for his sense of humour, and that he was joking about possessing a firearm.

"The employee made a joke saying he should be searched thoroughly as he might have a firearm, while the employees were being screened prior to the flight landing. Although it was a joke, as per protocol he had to be arrested," Firag had said.

Airport security had been tightened prior to President Solih's arrival when the arrest happened.
