An employee at HDh. Hanimaadhoo Airport has been arrested for joking about firearm possession.

Hanimaadhoo Council member Firag Mohamed told 'One' on Monday that the employee arrested was known for his sense of humour, and that he was joking about possessing a firearm.

"The employee made a joke saying he should be searched thoroughly as he might have a firearm, while the employees were being screened prior to the flight landing. Although it was a joke, as per protocol he had to be arrested," Firag said.

Firag added that the airport security had been tightened due to the President's arrival.

President Solih left to the northern atolls on an official trip on Monday afternoon.
