Dhangethi Member of Parliament (MP) and President of Maldives National Party (MNP) Mohamed Nazim has stated under an MNP presidency, the party will ensure that the judiciary is independent and establish trust in the judges.

Speaking during the first national congress of the party, MP Nazim stated that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) currently comes off as politically influenced. He added that the party has been vocal about reforming how the commission is established.

He highlighted that the changes are not being made to influence the judges but to allow them to be free and independent and utilize the years of knowledge they have acquired to the best of their potential.

The lawmaker stressed the importance of making the judiciary independent, adding that judges will stop fearing political influence and politicians during an MNP Presidency.

He further noted that the problem is not with the judges in the Maldives, but the lack of relevant resources. He vowed to address this issue and bring a solution to it during an MNP Presidency.
