Dhangethi Member of Parliament (MP) and President of Maldives National Party (MNP) Mohamed Nazim has stated that he does not believe that the state should be providing funds for political parties.

Speaking during the first session of the party's "The Nationals Congress 2022", the lawmaker said that his party is active politically, working for the rights of all the citizens. He added that due to this, he does not believe that taxpayer money should be redirected to political parties through the government.

He further highlighted that the party had not sought any help from the state so far, adding that the future of the party will remain the same.

Nazim also stressed that parties that claim funds from the state had not been engaged in any political work, instead are working towards personal gains.

He further revealed the addition to the basic party regulations where even though the party does not want state funds, should the party receive it, a portion of it be spent on the development of different constituencies. While the party discusses changes to its basic regulation today, MP Nazim had asked for the opinion of its members regarding the proposed change.
