Maldives Police Service (MPS) has begun investigating a domestic violence incident in Male' after a woman split open a man's head in a domestic dispute.

MPS sent a message to Police Media group on Friday night that they received reports of a domestic dispute around 1620hrs on Friday.

MPS said investigations have relieved that the incident took place during a domestic dispute within a family. A Maldivian man was taken to IGMH for medical attention after his head was spilt open by a family member.

MPS said they are currently investigating the issues. It is not confirmed whether any arrests have been made as of yet.

'One' has not been able to get any further details as the MPS media officer did not respond to calls or messaged.

A video of the incident has been circulating on social media showing a group of people arguing over land. A woman is seen hitting a man on the head with a metal object repeatedly, splitting his head open. The video also shows her hitting him on the face and the man is seen bleeding from his face.

The man in the video kept saying the woman who attacked him is his younger sister.
