Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has introduced a brand new section under the name Asset Security Services to safeguard important assets and infrastructure at the Velana International Airport (VIA).
MACL revealed that the services are offered by VIA's Safety, Security and Compliance Department and would be used to protect the airport's assets and infrastructure. A highly qualified security crew will oversee, monitor, and patrol all VIA assets in order to make these services possible.
A special event was held on Sunday to commemorate the beginning of the Asset Security Services. The uniform that would be worn by the services was also unveiled at the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ibrahim Thoha, Managing Director of MACL, noted that maintaining airport security is essential given the new challenges that come with developing airport infrastructure.
“Previously, as an Island airport, it was easy to manage the safety and security of the airport. However, by road connection from both Hulhumale’ and Male’ City gives easy access to the airport, and with it comes security challenges. By introducing new security services, I believe our airport assets will be protected from threats and intrusions.” stated Thoha.
The Asset Security Services will safe keep the New Seaplane Terminal, Landside controlled area of both New Fuel Farm and New Cargo Terminal, Air Traffic Management Building, Power Generation Building, Water Supply Building, MACL Administrative Building, airport landside boundary fence, and also vehicle parking areas. The team will control unnecessary entry to the airport by monitoring and manning Fire Alarm Control Panels, Access Control Systems, and CCTV Systems within the airport facilities.
Asset Security Services will also patrol and provide surveillance around the terminal area.
