A young man who fell off a ferry traveling from Gaafu Alif Atoll Gemanafushi to Gaafu Alif Atoll Kanduhulhudhoo has passed away.

Gemanafushi Council President Ibrahim Nashid revealed to One Online that the young man was 25 years of age.

The incident occurred at 5:40pm, Sources revealed that the deceased is Irufan, a Kanduhulhudhoo resident.

He fell off while speaking to another passenger near the tip of the ferry, however, it remains unclear as to how he exactly fell off according to Nashid.

Gemanafushi Health Center revealed that he was dead upon arrival, adding that the likely cause of death was drowning.
