Maldivian Foreign Minister and the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid gifted the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres with a Maldivian Boduberu as a parting gift at the end of his term.
Shahid was elected as the President of UNGA on September 14, 2021. He held his last monthly coordination with SG Antonio yesterday.
During this meeting, Shahid had presented SG Antonio with a Maldivian Boduberu as a parting gift, and thanked him for his friendship & wise counsel.
Shahid won the post of the President of the 76th Session of the UNGA with 143 of the total 191 votes cast against the former Foreign Minister of Afghanistan.
He remains as the first Maldivian to attain such a high-level post internationally.
Following the end of Shahid's term, Csaba Kőrösi, Director of Environmental Sustainability at the Office of the President of Hungary, would serve as President of the 77th session of the General Assembly. The election took place at United Nations Headquarters, in New York on 7 June 2022.
