Maldives Parliament on Wednesday passed the whitepaper by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the provision of compensation for damages in state projects.
The whitepaper which was reviewed by the Committee on Public Finance was passed by the votes of 48 members out of 53 present.
ACC had advised creating a regulation on the provision of compensation for damages.
The whitepaper further stated that while there exists a regulation that the 'Settlement Commission' needs to follow in order to settle such cases outside the court, the lack of any detailed references or guides creates room for different cases ending quite differently.
It added that this creates room for potential corruption as it may favor a certain group of people.
