International Maldives Travel Market (IMTM) 2022 has kicked off on Wednesday.
This year's IMTM fair is being held at Manhattan Business Centre, and will promote in-bound and out-bound tourism and Maldives as a 'MICE' destination.
The fair was inaugurated by Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom. The IMTM fair promotes Maldivian tourism industry alongside tour operators, travel agencies, destination management companies, and the most influential tourism businesses.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Mausoom stated that the IMTM fair plays a significant role in promoting tourism. He added that the presence of international tour operators and travel agencies that are keen to promote Maldives as a tourism destination will provide an added boost to the Administration's efforts in promoting the tourism sector.
He further added that he hope Maldives wins the most popular destination for a third consecutive year.
"Maldives has become the leading destination twice. We hope to remain so for a third consecutive year. The IMTM fair is being attended by global tour operators and travel agencies that have an interest in marketing the Maldives as a leading destination", Minister Mausoom said.
Speaking at the ceremony, IMTM's Managing Director Shiuna Khalid stated that the tourism industry is on the path to recovery after the pandemic, and the growth has been steady thanks to the efforts by the administration.
She added that the IMTM fair is a great opportunity to market the Maldives globally.
Shiuna stated that the Tourism Ministry and Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) and IMTM are working collectively to promote in-bound and out-bound tourism in the Maldives and to promote Maldives as a world class 'MICE' destination.
IMTM 2022 is the 6th edition of the initiative to promote the country's tourism industry with the most influential B2B online resources. The IMTM fair will be held from 7-8 September, after being held virtually for the past two years due to the pandemic.
The IMTM 2022 has a 100 participants from 20 countries. A total of 800 participants across resorts, hotels, safari, and homestay in the Maldives tourism sector are also partaking in the fair.
IMTM 2022 is being held with 'One' Online as the local media partner.
