Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim has stated that the solution to congestion in Male' City is setting a vehicle carrying capacity.
In order to provide efficient public transport within the city, MTCC had recently launched mini bus services. However, the move has been met with heavy criticism by taxi drivers who claim that the decision has made traffic and congestion in the city even worse.
In a tweet, the lawmaker stated that some residents are unable to leave their homes due to the congestion. He further added that the City Council should set a vehicle carrying capacity as the legal body to set one is the council itself.
While a vehicle carrying capacity has not been set for Male' yet, an estimate by HDC revealed that the capacity for Hulhumale' is 82,000 with 42,880 being for Phase I and 39,128 being for Phase II.
