The new Ambassador from the Republic of Panama to the Maldives, H.E Itzel Patiño de Villarreal has presented her credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The ceremony was held at President's Office on Monday.

President Solih met with the Ambassador after the ceremony and congratulated her on her appointment. He noted that this was the first time a Panamanian Ambassador has been appointed to the Maldives.

During the meeting, President Solih and the Ambassador spoke on multilateralism, sustainable tourism, climate change, democracy, counter terrorism, as well as cooperation in the international arena as mutual interests between the two countries.

President Solih and the Ambassador reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Panama in 1989.
