Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has decided to terminate the contract with Waterfront Hotel & Leisure Company, which was entrusted to develop a water park and a leisure hotel in Hulhumale.
With the inclusion of different types of water slides for both adults and children, the theme park project began during the tenure of former President Abdulla Yameen.
The USD 35 million project began construction early on, though, besides the development of structures for the theme park, not much was completed.
While a case related to the extension of the construction period of the project by HDC is ongoing at the Civil Court, HDC has ordered the company to handover the land within 30 days.
Waterfront Hotel & Leisure Company has however challenged the decision at the Civil Court and is seeking an injunction on HDC’s decision.
Civil Court said last Tuesday that an injunction on the decision will affect the verdict in the case, as questions have been raised regarding the agreement period. They further added that Waterfront Hotel & Leisure Company had failed to prove any substantial proof to their claim noting that a handover before a verdict would result in irrevocable damages.
Civil Court had noted that an injunction order will not be issued until a verdict has been reached in the case.
