Home Minister Imran Abdulla has stated that the reintegration of inmates who had completed the first prison-based drug rehabilitation program back into society is a key step in efforts to save the Maldivian community from drugs.
His comments come after inmates who completed the first prison-based drug rehab program by Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) had returned to their families.
MCS said the inmates were granted conditional parole, and will be monitored for a one-year period while they are reunited with their families.
They further added that they launched the drug rehabilitation program in February 2022 to provide drug offenders with detox and substance abuse treatment, education, and job training.
