President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that over 15,000 students are currently enrolled in the Administration's free first degree program.
President Solih made the statement on Twitter, on Wednesday.
"Our aim is to produce a generation of well rounded, highly educated young people who can contribute meaningfully to nation building," his tweet read.
The free first degree program was inaugurated on 14 February 2019 with 4,804 students. In 2020, 4,818 students enrolled for the free first degree program, and 3,301 student in 2021. So far, 2,077 students have enrolled in the free first degree program in 2022.
Speaking at the opening session of the Parliament, President Solih has the Government's aim is to have 5,000 graduates from the free first degree program who will contribute towards nation building.
The free first degree program is a presidential pledge of the current Administration.
