Criminal Court has scheduled former MP and leader of Dhivehi Rahyithunge Party (DRP), (Kaanal) Mohamed Nasheed's trial for Tuesday, over allegations of engaging in homosexuality.
(Kaanal) Nasheed was arrested on 28 July for allegedly engaging in homosexuality with Bangladeshi resident, Alamghir, and released on 12 August upon Prosecutor General (PG) Office's request.
PG Office charged (Kaanal) Nasheed with engaging in homosexuality on 18 August 2022.
The trial is scheduled for 1530hrs on Tuesday, but will be a closed hearing due to the nature of the allegation.
(Kaanal) Nasheed has denied the charges against him, stating he went to Alamghir's residence for a business meeting. However, the leaked court statement by Alamghir states that he engaged in homosexuality with (Kaanal) Nasheed on two separate occasions.
PG Office has also charged lawyer Nazim Sattar and former Drug Enforcement Department (DED) Officer Abdul Rahman Rafeeu with engaging in homosexuality.
Criminal Court held Alamghir's trial on Monday.
