A young man has passed away after drowning while snorkelling in R. Ungoofaaru.

Ali Mimrah, 25, from Ungoofaaru passed away on Monday while snorkelling.

Speaking to 'One', President of Ungoofaaru Council, Abdulla Rasheed said that Mimrah was taken to Ungoofaaru Hospital around 1630hrs after drowning. He added that Mimrah was already deceased when he was brought to the hospital. Rasheed did not provide any further details.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) said they received reports of a drowning incident and that Ungoofaaru Hospital confirmed Mimrah was already deceased when he was brought to the hospital.

MPS is currently investigating the incident.
