Transport Ministry has revised pick-up fare charges for goods transportation.

The Ministry gazetted the land vehicle good transportation regulations on Thursday. The regulations stated that transportation fares should be charged according to the prices publicised by the Ministry.

The regulation also stated that fares should be kept visible in the pick-ups.

New fares for pick-up goods transportation:

  • 750kg-2tonne pick-ups: MVR 200 per hour
  • <750kg pick-ups: MVR 150 per hour

Old fares for pick-up goods transportation:

  • <1 tonne pick-ups: MVR 140 per hour
  • 1-2 tonne pick-ups: MVR 180 per hour
  • >2 tonne pick-ups: MVR 250 per hour

All goods transported in pick-ups should be secured in the pick-up to avoid risk of accidents due to goods falling out of the pick-up, the new regulation stated.

Additionally, the regulation also stated that pick-up truck drivers must have a clear view of the road from their rearview mirrors. In case the goods cover the rearview mirror view, the driver must have someone in the back with the goods for assistance.

The regulation also stated that pick-ups cannot obstruct traffic while unloading goods.

Furthermore, the regulation added that pick-up trucks used for waste disposal must cover any waste to avoid littering, and the waste must be covered to keep the smell in.
