Former President, Mohamed Nasheed, has said that the highest priority of MDP’s Agenda ‘19 is lowering cost of electricity to MVR 2.50.

Agenda ‘19 is the Parliamentary campaign policy of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for the upcoming elections.

President Nasheed said this while speaking at campaign event of Parliamentary hopeful for Guraidhoo constituency, Adil Saleem. He said that checking to see prices for over 100 unites or any other unit is unnecessary. The former President said that he has seen an electricity bill of a person in the island of Gulhi that was MVR 1000.

He noted that the the island of Gulhi only consists of smaller houses. As such, he said that no person can claim that setting up an air conditioning unit shows that the individual is financially stable.

President Nasheed said that it becomes too difficult to do anything within a small apartment and that deducting MVR 1500 ad the electricity bill is not justice.

He added that the cost of electricity bills are not severe in other countries and said that a lower cost could also be implemented in Maldives.
