Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that sometimes among confusion, it is conceivable that the Supreme Court is the highest power on establishing justice.
President Nasheed said this while speaking at campaign event of Parliamentary hopeful for Guraidhoo constituency, Adil Saleem. He added that the highest authority on justice has always been the Supreme Court and that a Presidency voted on by the people will be carried out as the people want.
He said that the Constitution dictates that all the authorities on the State originally lead back to its people.
While the former President has said this, the Constitution clearly states that the highest authority of implementing justice.
President Nasheed further said that the people should let go of the hope that the government will reclaim some land near Maafushi harbor. He said that he has heard from various Maafushi citizens that they are awaiting the occasion where the construction of the harbor will take place. President Nasheed added that the construction of Maafushi harbor is not a responsibility of the government. He said that the most significant work of Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) Parliamentary campaign policy, Agenda ‘19 is returning Maafushi to its people.
While the former President has said this, all State owned coconut trees and lagoons of Maafushi being returned to its citizens is stated in Agenda ‘19. He noted that the reclamation of the harbor as well as other work will be carried out by the local Council afterwards.
President Nasheed noted that the cost of reclamation is MVR 27 per square feet and that currently, the value of one square foot is MVR 1,500. He said that as such, reclamation of land should be an easy feat.
